JoPACC trains NRC and WFP on the Use of Mobile Money

-

As part of its commitment towards raising digital financial awareness and promoting the responsible use of digital financial services, JoPACC held training-of-trainers (TOT) sessions for the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and for the World Food Programme (WFP) on the use of mobile wallets. Attending the NRC training session were NRC staff members who are engaged in aid disbursement for Syrian refugees in the Zataari camp. Trainers will train refugees on the responsible use of mobile wallets as NRC shifts to mobile payments for their aid disbursement programs. The WFP training session was attended by WFP staff and trainers.

This training introduces the concept of mobile money, the use cases of mobile wallets, and the terms of using mobile wallets in Jordan, and user rights and responsibilities. It sheds light on the added value of mobile money in the lives of financially excluded persons who haven’t had access to formal financial services before. The training also introduces basic financial literacy with a focus on budgeting, financial planning, and saving.  JoPACC has developed various tools and services that help trainers and users of mobile money to reach comprehensive information on mobile money. These include awareness videos, a demo wallet, a mobile wallet gateway for wallet registration and self-inquiry about registered wallets, and an awareness Facebook page called “Mahafezna” that is dedicated to mobile money and user inquiries.

JoPACC’s training program intends to equip trainers with the needed knowledge on basic financial literacy and the use of mobile wallets and builds their capacity to train end-users of mobile wallets. JoPACC offers TOT upon demand by local entities and development agencies who introduce mobile payments in their programs and need to train their beneficiaries. The program is aligned with JoPACC’s strategy for the years (2019-2022), which aims to increase financial inclusion by facilitating access to knowledge on digital financial services and raising financial awareness to all society segments and residents of Jordan.
